Momma Snowflakes

Cat Proofing update:
My fuzzy one has tried about 3 times to climb the tree but all she has succeeded in doing is bending the cardboard ring. So far all the decorations are still intact. The ribbon I put around the edge to hide the cardboard from view on the other hand keeps falling (the fuzzy one may be helping this along). Now the tree skirt is her napping spot.

Oh Christmas Tree

Well the fake tree was put up this week missing its traditional bottom two layers. What tradition is that you ask? The one that we started in an effort to keep the cat out of the tree. It slows her down but has not kept her out of the tree, each day I get up 1 or 2 branches is dangling . So I went to the garage and brought out a large box. Why? I cut it to the circumference of the bottom layer of the tree. Then cut a slit in the circle and a small circle in the center to fit around the tree trunk. I used packing ribbon to tie the cardboard to the tree limbs (I used scissors to poke holes through the cardboard and threaded the ribbon though it.). The cardboard looked ugly! So in came a roll of sparkly wide ribbon I taped two rows of ribbon around the edge of the cardboard to hide it. Hopefully this will work?!?!

Mushy Food Time

Well I have started feed the little guy mushy foods. So far he has rejected green apples, pineapple, and mushy (but slightly lumpy) oatmeal. He LOVES sweet potatoes. He chases the spoon with his mouth, and wines if I spoon it out too slow for him. He also likes peaches. This week he tried something new, barley mush, and today he had it mixed with apples for breakfast and mixed with peaches for lunch.

Barley Mush:
1/4 cup barley flour
1/2 cup water/ formula/ or breast milk
-Mix and microwave in bowl at half power for 15 seconds

1 serving = 1-2 tablespoon(s) for beginning eater
(serving should never be bigger than the palm of the child's hand)

Adventures in Breast Feeding

I just took the lil guy for his 4 month check up and found out the most probable reason for his vomiting was the preservatives in the Soft Batch Chips Ahoy cookies I ate since he had not gotten sick after I eating other chocolate items. To add to this he became sick last night after I ate a Little Debbie Pumpkin Snack. Looks like my lil guy will be helping me to eat healthier snacks or homemade snacks. But I don't see when I'll have the time to make things. Coming home from work and fixing dinner is tiring enough.

Making Homemade Baby Food

My new favorite momma toy is the Baby Breeza. If you aren't familiar with it you put chopped fruits or veggies into it and pick a setting then it cooks and grinds the food. So far I have made and frozen blueberries and green beans for my little guy to eat. I am starting early making his food since some of the "safe" beginner foods are in season right now.  I have portioned and bagged the blueberry mush, but the green bean mush is still sitting in the freezer tray.  It's been that way for a few days now due to my son going through his 12 week growth spurt.

You will love to hear what my "freezer tray" is, I'm sure. It was a mail away promo from Jello quite a few years ago for Easter. It is to make jellybean sized jello jigglers. I didn't want to freeze food in big containers since he will start out eating such small portions. In my reading I found out a portion is only a half a tablespoon in the beginning and 3 "jellybeans" are about that amount. How cool is that?
